To determine if an ECU update is available, connect the BDM Scan Tool (or another tool capable of reading the vehicle's PCM calibration code) to the OBDII port and navigate to the vehicle information section. Select Calibration ID (for GM) or PCM Part Number (for all other manufacturers) and record this number. Users will use this number to compare to the numbers found on the OEM websites, as instructed below:

GM
Enter the VIN number in the “VIN” Field and click “Get CAL ID” button. If the part number read on the scan tool is different from that on the webpage, the vehicle requires an update.

FORD
Select “Quick Guides” from the menu on the left. Then select “Latest Calibration Information”. Users are to scroll down to the bottom of the page and select the “Search Calibration by Vehicle, Model Year and Engine” link. Users are to refer to the Part Number read on the scan tool and compare that to the list of “New Part Numbers” the search page generates. If the Part Number is not on the list then the vehicle requires an update.

CHRYSLER
Users are to select “J2534 Flash Availability” from the menu on the left of the page. This will launch a PDF document that provides users a list of the current calibrations per vehicle. Users are to locate the correct vehicle using the calibration column on the left (For an explanation of the body codes refer to Chrysler's FAQs section). Users are then to refer to the calibration read on the scan tool and compare that to the list of available “New Part Numbers” for that vehicle. If it is not a New Part Number then the vehicle requires an update.

MAZDA
Select “PDF Version” or “HTML Version” from the text near the top left of the screen. This will open a file listing all of the current calibrations per vehicle. Users are to locate the correct vehicle using the Model, Model Year, Type and Sub Type qualifiers. Users are then to refer to the Part Number read on the scan tool and compare that to the list of available “New Part Numbers”. If it is not a New Part Number then the vehicle requires an update.

TOYOTA / LEXUS / SCION
To determine if a Toyota vehicle requires an update you will need a Toyota Calibration CD. Toyota Calibration CDs can be ordered through the Toyota Material Distribution Center at (800) 622-2033; order P/N 00456-REPRG-001

HONDA / ACURA
To determine if a Honda or Acura vehicle requires an update you will need access to Honda TSB information via either the Honda Service website (https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/logon.asp ) or a third party service information provider (i.e. Mitchell 1, All Data, Motor, etc.). All flash updates are associated with a TSB. A Honda or Acura ECM should only be re-flashed as a result of a TSB instruction to do so.

NISSAN / INFINITI
To determine if a Nissan vehicle requires an update you will need access to Nissan TSB information via either the Nissan Service website (www.nissan-techinfo.com) or a third party service information provider (i.e. Mitchell 1, All Data, Motor, etc.). All flash updates are associated with a TSB. A Nissan or Infiniti ECM should only be re-flashed as a result of a TSB instruction to do so.
