Drivers understand their vehicles. They know if something doesn't "feel" right and should be checked.
When it comes to engine performance "drivability" concerns, they often request a "tune-up".
Along with performance issues, consumers often use the term "tune-up" when they want to make sure their vehicle is reliable. Common reasons for concern:
- Planning a vacation
- Getting ready for harsh winter or summer weather conditions
- Giving the vehicle to a family member, often a son or daughter going off to school
On today's high-tech vehicles, the term "tune-up" can be confusing. To determine what, if anything needs to be serviced or replaced, a comprehensive inspection must be done covering the key engine performance systems.
The 21st Century Tune-Up is not a list of parts to be replaced. It is a comprehensive checklist.
The initial customer interview and the quick checks should take less than 30 minutes. Additional in-depth tests are listed if potential problems are identified. A detailed list of all the checks are included in the Professional Service Provider 21st Century Tune-Up brochure.
"Flash" updating one of the on-board computers may be all that is needed to improve performance. As part of the checklist, professional service providers can see if an update is available for your vehicle and perform the update if needed. Select iflash. for more information on this topic.
For professionals, seminars and service manuals are available through your Standard territory manager.
Consumer video and wall posters are available for display in service provider waiting rooms. A consumer handout explains the 21st Century Tune-Up and provides a checklist.
